Paul Shimomoto

Paul was born and raised in Hawaii. While he pursued law as an occupation, music was always his passion. He has been a member of numerous doo-wop acapella groups, performed in local theatre, and for 8 years was the lead vocalist in a local Hawaiian music group.

In 2003 Paul won the 1st annual Hapa Haole Hula and Music Festival earning the right to record under Hula Records and in 2004 released his debut CD, “Magic Beside the Sea”, which was nominated for several Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards and was an entrant in the 2004 Grammy Awards (Best Hawaiian Album).

In December of 2007, Paul released his second CD, “Sentimental Alibi”,under his own recording label, Leo Hano Records. Among others, he teamed up with former ‘Iolani School classmate, Mark Tanouye (bass); noted keyboard player Dan Del Negro of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet; Nā Hōkū award winner Weldon Kekauoha; and award winning guitar player Jeff Petersen. On March 15, 2008, Paul accepted the Contemporary Hawaiian CD of the Year award at the 11th Annual Hawaii Music Awards for his work on “Sentimental Alibi”.

Paul has also had the privilege of performing and recording with noted artists and professionals such as Pierre Grille, Milan Bertosa, Ho’okena, Dean Taba, Fred Li, Wendell Ching, Harold Kama, Jr., Sean Carroll, William “Baba” Alimoot, Chris Kamaka and Greg Sardinha.
